The Evil Within
Rating: R18+
‘Enter the mind of a madman. After witnessing the slaughter of fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. Facing unimaginable terror, and fighting for survival, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel what’s behind this evil force.’
The Evil Within is a game filled with multiple jump scares and goosebumps feeling moments where you’re not sure whether you’re about to die, have the shit scared out of you or you’re just paranoid something bad is going to happen and it doesn’t happen.
This is the story of Sebastian Castellanos a detective who is on a mission to discover what is happening to the world around him and why it feels so real to him, when it’s not something that would happen in reality. Watching everyone he knows around him getting killed without being able to do anything about it, unless he wants to lose his own life as well.
This game has much to explore and many little gifts and trinkets throughout the game play. Always making it adventurous and worth playing over and over again as you always miss something through each game play. Discovering different ways to kill the zombie infested villagers throughout the town surrounding Beacon Mental Hospital. Following the story of a patient who has been thrown into stem alongside the innocent individuals who have to battle with demons of the unknown.
The upgrades in this game are limitless, but they’re far from perfect and I don’t think they really help all too much. But they do help you successfully get to the end of the game without having to die too many times. I’ve only ever played this game on the easiest level possible, gotten to chapter 15 and never have successfully completed it yet. Had this game for about a year now, taken me over 8 months and counting to finish it too.
Having played The Evil Within 2 first and after enjoying that one so much I decided to suss out The Evil Within, I have to admit, it’s not as great as The Evil Within 2, but it does create a good story guide for the second one. So there a lot of pieces in the puzzle that aren’t complete after playing the first game and the second one makes sense of that more. But you’ll be able to read more about that in ‘The Evil Within 2’ review.
This game has many levels, and you can easily save the game. Auto save is a true lifesaver too. Would suck to have to start the whole level again since some are longer than others. This is not a game for individuals who lose patience after dying 5 or more times. Because trust me, that is most likely to happen, even in the easiest setting of game play.
I give this game a 3.5 controllers out of 5, as because I am biased towards The Evil Within 2, I just believe this game didn’t have the greatest and expectation of how I felt towards the second one.
